When I Close My Eyes I Can See Her Face
A Poem by Jim Nasium

She gave me a book of poetry
that night out by the pool
I didn't have anything for her
we don't exchange gifts as a rule
we watched the sun set in the sky
sipped on our Manhattan Iced Tea
we were content with our passion spent
it was a wonderful place to be

She gave me a book of poetry
poems about friendship and friends
all the poems had happy endings
claimed true friendship never ends
but what the book didn't say
true friendship is hard to find
most friendships fall apart from the start
they only eat away at your mind

She gave me a book of poetry
hard bound with glossy paper
we always start out making love
then she wants me to use her
she's wilder than a wild cat
just wants more and more
tells me that she loves to be
my private willing whore

She gave me a book of poetry
to page through now and then
I know I'll see her again sometime
but I just don't know when
she fits so well in my arms
when tangled in a lovers knot
we look into each others eyes
burn with desire on the spot

She gave me a book of poetry
poems about friendship and friends
all the poems had happy endings
claimed friendship never ends
if that were true I'm asking you
why am I alone in this place
happy ending are for books and movies
when I close my eyes I can see her face...
