What Joe Would Do
A Poem by Jim Nasium
Joe was a pretty good artist
he was know all over town
his work had been shown every where
his name was getting around
but Joe had a little secret
not many knew what he was up to
so let me tell about Joe and the show
and that secret thing he'd do
Just before each show Joe would go
lock himself in the bathroom
he would sit but wouldn't shit
take out his needle and spoon
he'd cook up it and take a hit
then nod there for awhile
when he came out there was no doubt
it was easy for Joe to smile
Now Mary Jane who was insane
was also at the same show
she like to keep an eye on him
keep tabs of where Joe'd go
but the other night it was really tight
and Joe managed to slip away
he was gone awhile but returned with a smile
yet didn't have too much to say
Just before each show, Joe would go
lock himself in the bath room
then he'd go and mingle with the crowd
smelling of stale smoke and perfume
Mary Jane who was really insane
would follow him all around
Joe was a really nice person
he just liked getting down...
