Warm Coca Cola
two short poems
Jim Nasium

A bottle of warm Coca Cola
coil's burning to keep bugs away
if this wasn't the only Hotel in town
this isn't a place he would stay
thin walls made of bamboo
tied together with dried field grass
sitting there lost in a snow storm
shit faced doing blast after blast

A jug of bottled water
a needle and a spoon
candle light seems bright tonight
blends with light from a full moon
dogs barking in the distance
announce what's going on
bird sing songs of a new day
before he knows it it's already dawn

First light peeks through the window
over by a table and chair
time goes by so quickly
when having fun; it's not fair
the market down the street opens
people gather to buy and trade
he can't keep his eyes open
he's finally starting to fade

Wanted no more but a knock at the door
the fruit vendor down the street
about twenty six and she turned tricks
tall and thin ever so sweet
for 20 Pesos a lay, she'd stay the day
but he just wanted to go to bed
he took her fruit; gave her some toot
shut the door when goodbyes were said

He tried to sleep but started to weep
as he longed to be back home
he slept on a cot some one forgot
covered with a thick piece of old foam
the room was small, unsafe and all
folks passing by could hear
any thing he said that popped in his head
suddenly he was over whelmed with fear

A bottle of warm Coca Cola
coil's burning to keep bugs away
if this wasn't the only Hotel in town
this is not a place he would stay
thin walls made of bamboo
a strong wind could blow away
time has come to leave this place
there was no reason to stay...
