Breakfast With God (the other day) A Story Poem by Jim Nasium
I went to breakfast with God the other day I guess we had a good time together it
was a warm day, windy and gray but we paid no attention to weather we sat
in a booth, our waitress was Ruth we ordered eggs over easy and home
fries it was easy to see He felt sorry for me He could see the sadness in
my eyes...
then...
"Take my yoke" He said to me another of His
many pranks but since I'm watching my cholesterol I smiled and said "no
thanks I can not take another thing feel like I'm going to snap every
day it just gets worse I'm so tired of the crap"
and
then...
"Let my shaft comfort you" He said with a smile on his
face I told him "I don't go that way" and that I thought it was a
disgrace then asked Him why He torments me and exactly why is my life so
unfair He looked at me with soulful eyes as if He had something He wanted
to share
but then...
"I am the Sheppard, you are a sheep" He
said with frightening grin I replied, "if that were true I'm telling
you there's no way I would ever win I've got to do things my own
way and have to do them at my own pace" when we finally stopped eating and
talking there was disappointment all over His face
so
then...
The waitress brought the check to us wished us both a very
nice day and as He sat there looking at me I couldn't think of a thing to
say "you think this is a joke, but every word I spoke is true because it
is My will now don't be a jerk" He said with a smirk "go ahead and pay the
bill"
