Searching For Treasure
A Poem by Jim Nasium

Once while searching for treasure
lost for days on some jungle trail
an adventure turned into serious trouble
thank goodness the guide went my bail

The caves we found the gold in
turned out to be government property
the Amazon river flowed nearby
while on it's way out to sea

Some Indians and our animals
watched over us in camp
an Amazon jungle treasure
was our kerosene lamp

The jungle became quiet
there wasn't any sound
usually an indication
that some one is around

Then the mules got excited
our protection let us down
we went for our weapons
when we heard a strangers sound

"You're under arrest come with me"
is what the stranger said
to this day his words
still echo in my head

Handcuffed together with my guide
we were taken off to jail
charged with grand theft and trespassing
given twenty thousand dollars bail

The guide paid bail for me
so the police would let me go
when he came back to pick me up
he gave me a bag of blow

He told me not to worry
he hid some gold away
and that we'd go and get it
in a couple of days

Once while searching for treasure
on some Amazon jungle trail
an adventure turned into serious trouble
but the guide went my bail

The caves we found the gold in
turned out to be government property
the Amazon river flowed nearby
while on it's way to sea...
