The Introduction to "To Be Renewed"
A Story Poem by Jim Nasium
picture yourself on a small boat on a river
with jungle all around you and a tangerine sky
no one is talking because they're being watched
thinking they made a mistake and can't understand why
the cargo hold is full and you know that they know you
you're stuck floating helplessly by with no place to go
the risk will be worth it if and when the trip is over
but will we make it is all I want to know...
To Be Renewed
Floating slowly on dark water
the current pulled us along
with a little help from the breeze
while birds whistled their song
I did some more to be renewed
after all that's what I came here for
I thought sailing the Amazon would be fun
but I ain't doing this no more
Slowly floating down the long river
from the Andes to the ocean shore
moving at a snails pace for days
I'm tired and can't take much more
we just weren't getting any where
or at least that's how it seemed
so I did some more to be renewed
thinking maybe this was a dream
Floating down the dark river
thick jungle on either side
we knew we were being watched
but there was no place to hide
the captain had his gun ready
my pistol was by my side
I did some more to be renewed
and to get a little false pride
Night time on the dark water
wasn't very much fun
there had to be a guard
and he needed to have a gun
the trip will be worth the hassle
when and if we reach the end
I do some more to be to be renewed
then I do some more again
Floating on dark water
lots of strange new sounds
the cargo hold is loaded
with more than fifty pounds
I did some more to be renewed
after all that's what I came here for
I thought sailing down the Amazon would be fun
but I ain't doing this no more....
